Madeleine de Gastambide Dethroned: Not Recommended for Children Under 16 Horror Spanish Novel Triumphs on Prime Video

It is the number 1 movie of the moment on Prime Video and has taken the place of the success of France. Franck Gastambide and his action comedy Medellin are dethroned with a sizzling Spanish romance adapted from the best-selling novel by Mercedes Rohn.

Titled À contre-sens, this film by Domingo González tells the story of the complicated relationship between Noah, played by Nicole Wallace (Skam España) and Nick, played by Gabriel Guevara (Mañana es hoy). Between the creepy romance and racing cars, this feature film was aimed at fans of After and Fast and Furious.

And it looks like he hit it off, as À contre-sens is No. 1 on Prime Video. This new adaptation of the novels for adults is a hit on the platform thanks to its two main characters who are not lacking in charm and chemistry and its many twists.

Conversely, “better than after”?

Seventeen-year-old Noah is forced to live with his mother and rich stepfather. After settling into her luxurious home, she meets Nick, her new half-brother, with whom tensions arise.

Behind the image of a model son, Nick actually hides a “bad boy” life consisting of fights, games and illegal car races. The initial enmity between these two quickly turns into an irresistible attraction and an all-consuming passion that they will have to hide from the people they love. But Nick’s turbulent present and Noah’s turbulent past will test their lives and their forbidden love.

If À contre-sens is in line with the line of young adult horror fiction adaptations pioneered by After, some would agree that the Spanish film is better than the saga adapted from Anna Todd’s novels.

Translation: “I’m seriously obsessed! This is something you only see on Wattpad.”

Translation: “This stuff is so hot, it’s so much better than the after movies and stuff, oh my god.”

Prime Video subscribers are therefore won over by À contre-sens, which is not only number one on the platform, but also receives a viewership rating of 4/5 on AlloCiné! The public is already clamoring for a second film, which no doubt should have been commissioned given the success of the first feature film.

Against the Senses is available on Prime Video.
