Scream 6: New theory points to fourth surviving killer

According to a new thesis, one of the Ghostfaces from the 2023 film would have survived unrevealed – and potentially played a major role in Scream 7

Scream 6premiered in March 2023 with a difference compared to its predecessors: the sixth film was the first to introduce three assassins in the franchise. However, a recent theory has been pointing to a possible fourth killer, a hidden name, which is not revealed in the last act of the film.

What happens in Scream 6?

In the plot of Scream 6the survivors of Panic(2022), Sam (Melissa Barrera), Tara (Jenna Ortega), Mindy (Jasmin Savoy-Brown) and Chad (Mason Gooding) move to New York, only to face a new wave of murders. There, they are joined by new friends Quinn, Ethan (Jack Champion), Anika, and Sam’s new boyfriend Danny (Josh Segarra), to deal with the villain’s new attacks Ghostface.

They are joined by veteran Gale Weathers (Courteney Cox) and Kirby Reed (Hayden Panettiere), as well as Detective Bailey (Dermot Mulroney), who ultimately turns out to be the killer alongside the two children, who are revealed to be Ethan and Quinn. The motive for the crimes is revenge for the death of Richie Kirsch (jack quaid), the Ghostface from the previous film and Bailey’s firstborn, killed by Sam’s hand.

A new theory, however, has pointed to the involvement of a fourth murderer in the Ghostface attacks in New York. Precisely for Danny, Sam’s boyfriend, who would be absent from the film’s main attack scenes.

Who explains is the nerdist (via ScreenRant). According to the theory, Danny would only show up to help the three original killers cover up the attacks. Suspicion begins with the scene after Quinn’s supposed death (Liana Liberato) and the murder of Anika (Devyn Nekoda), when he tells Sam not to trust anyone – including him. This would be a way to confuse the audience and the protagonist about his intentions.

Next, Sam calls Danny when he realizes that Gale is being attacked by Ghostface – and he fails to make it in time. In the final attack, Danny is left out of the confrontation, technically responsible for calling the police, which could also have been a Plan B, in case the main trio’s attacks didn’t work out.

According to the theory, Danny would be responsible for getting Sam and the others out of the apartment during Quinn’s faked death. In the subway scene, he would be instrumental in separating Mindy and Ethan from the rest of the group – which would ultimately make Mindy’s attack possible. Finally, his participation in the finale would be instrumental in framing Sam as the prime suspect in the attacks, as in the Bailey family’s original plan. With the downfall of the three assassins, though, he ended up coming off as a heroic boyfriend.

Impact on Scream 7

More than constructing a theory about Scream 6the fourth assassin theory takes aim at the events of Scream 7, the next sequel, already approved by the producer. According to the thesis, Danny would have gained the trust of the main cast with the end of the last film, making him a perfect potential killer for the next part.

More than that, it would be a way of Scream 7 mirror the Scream 3 (2000). It is a known fact that Pânico (2022) sought references in the first Panicfrom 1996, as well as Scream 6 (2023) would have roots in the history of Scream 2 (1997). In this way, the participation of an unknown assassin linked to the past would be a way of repeating the formula used in the third part of the franchise, when the Ghostface of the time was Roman Bridger (Scott Foley), the lost brother of protagonist Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell) and motivator of the attacks that gave rise to the story.

The only answer that the theory fails to give is about Danny’s motivations for getting involved in the plot – which the thesis leaves to be answered in the potential script of the seventh film.
