Hurry up for this biopic/trial film that is a hit on Netflix, where it ranks as the 6th most watched movie. Currently presented on the platform under its original name, Just Mercy, it was called “La Voie de la justice” when it was released in France in January 2020.
After a brilliant education at Harvard University, young attorney Brian Stevenson leaves a lucrative career to defend those wrongfully convicted in Alabama. One of his earliest cases was that of Walter McMillian, who was sentenced to death in 1987 for the high-profile murder of an 18-year-old girl when most of the evidence pointed to his innocence.
Michael B. Jordan, the hero of the Creed saga and considered the villain in Black Panther, lends his qualities to Brian Stevenson, who really existed and fought for civil rights in Alabama in the 1980s, especially trying to end mass incarceration. and excessive sentencing in the American justice system.
Michael B. Jordan
It is his life that is represented in Just Mercy, as well as his struggle and participation in several cases, including Walter McMillian, against systemic racism and unfair maneuvers.
The film is directed by Destine Daniel Cretton, a director of American independent cinema, most recently seen on the Marvel blockbuster Shang-Chi and The Legend of the Ten Rings.

His staging is very academic in that the very important subject he is dealing with seems to be so impressed with him that we feel the camera is posing shyly and discreetly. This contrasts with the dynamism he was able to display in his previous films Le Château de verre or State of Grace.
The film was a commercial failure upon its theatrical release, but seems to be finding a second life thanks to subscribers. Good revenge!
