On the same day that the audio of the conversations that served as the basis for the conviction of Robinho for the rape of a woman in Italy in 2013 was released, the analysis of the defense’s appeal returned to the agenda of the Court Superior of Justice. Thus the judgment on the player’s arrest in Brazil will resume.
This Wednesday (14/6), the case was resubmitted for discussion by the Special Tribunal, with a session scheduled for 2 August. In April, Judge João Otávio de Noronha, of the STJ, asked to watch the trial until next Monday (19). As a result, the trial was suspended for two months.
The STJ analyzes a request made by the Italian government for Robinho to serve a nine-year prison sentence in Brazil. The lawyers representing the player are requesting that the government of that country subpoena to present a verbatim translated copy of the trial.
The Robinho case
Italian justice has concluded that Robinho and five friends raped an Albanian woman at the Sio Café nightclub in Milan. The case occurred on 22 January 2013, when the Brazilian was playing for Milan. Four friends of the player left Italy during the investigation, and therefore their participation in the episode is part of another process. Robinho and Ricardo Falco, however, remained in the country and were ultimately sentenced to nine years in prison in January 2022. But for being able to return to Brazil, Robinho did not serve his sentence, as the country does not allow extradition of its natural. Therefore, the Italian justice has requested, since the beginning of 2023, that the player serve his sentence in his country of origin.
