Tom Cruise has never won an Oscar…and he turned down a movie he was offered

If he already has three Golden Globes and an honorary Palme d’Or during his rich acting career, Tom Cruise has yet to win an Oscar.

The Mission Impossible star has been nominated three times for his roles in Born on the Fourth of July, Jerry Maguire and Magnolia. But even if his filmography includes many critically acclaimed works, he still did not receive the prestigious statue.

However, a feature film could give him a chance to be awarded in good standing again. Indeed, according to the information of the sites NotStarring.com and TheNews.comTom Cruise was initially tipped to star in the biopic An Exceptional Man directed by Ron Howard in 2002.

This moving drama, centered on the tumultuous life of mathematician John Forbes Nash Jr. – Nobel Prize laureate in 1994 and suffering from a severe psychiatric disorder – was finally directed by Russell Crowe.

Despite his excellent performance, the latter did not receive the Oscar that year, which was awarded to Denzel Washington for his role in Training Day (but remember that Crowe had already won the previous year for Gladiator).

Still, The Outstanding Man was nominated in 8 categories and won 4 statues (including Best Picture and Best Director).

It is impossible to know whether Tom Cruise would have been more convincing to the Academy members playing the mathematician. In any case, it seems that the actor turned down the role to devote himself to a completely different project: Vanilla Sky, a remake of the Spanish film Open your eyes, the rights of which he recently bought.

Cameron Crowe’s 2001 feature film, which received just one Oscar nomination…for Best Original Song.

Will Tom Cruise get the prestigious trophy one day? In any case, if there was a category for the best stunt awards, there is no doubt that he would already have many prizes, the one who is going to play special agent Ethan Hunt for the seventh time in the cinema.
