Mayor Ricardo Nunes (MDB) has chosen City Secretary of the Treasury, Ricardo Torres, to fill the vacant seat of the Municipal Court of Auditors. The appointment will be formalized this Friday 16, but will depend on the approval of the city council, whose president, councilor Milton Leite (União Brasil), was running for a seat for one of his sons.
Despite the messages received from Leite’s interlocutors in recent weeks, Nunes has not given in to the will of the commissioner, who plays an important role in supporting the government. To the allies, the Speaker of the House signaled his desire to see Milton Leite Filho, who is a state deputy, in the position of councilor, a life position with a monthly salary of R$ 35,000 and a series of privileges, such as full pension.
The vacancy opened at the end of May with the mandatory retirement of Maurício Faria, appointed by then-Mayor Marta Suplicy, in 2002. With a string of jobs crippled by TCM, Nunes sees Torres’ appointment to the agency as a chance to influence more directly in court decisions which, last week, suspended another project deemed to be a priority: the construction of five CEUs.
Torres won the internal dispute opened by Nunes among the names of his secretariat. Marcela Arruda, head of portfolio management, was the mayor’s favorite, but she would not have the necessary support among the councilors due to her lack of political experience.
