Francis Lawrence Returns to Franchise to Direct ‘Song of Birds and Serpents’

Mystery revealed! Rachel Zegler and Tom Blyth were cast as leads in the spinoff film Hunger Games, The Song of Birds and Serpents. Both will give life to Lucy Gray Baird and Coriolanus Snow (via The Hollywood Reporter).

The story is based on the prelude book by Suzanne Collinsreleased in 2020. 64 years before the events of the original saga, when snow is president of Panem, we will see the so-called “Dark Days”, a period 10 years after the war.

The prequel is focused on the youth of snow, a handsome and charming young man, heir to a traditional family that is going through difficult times in the post-war period. With the 10th annual The Hunger Games, he sees a chance to change his destiny when he is chosen to mentor, though he is disappointed to be assigned to Lucy Gray Bairdtribute from the wretched District 12.

Blyth inherits Snow’s role from Donald Sutherland, who played him in the main saga films. The film will be directed by Francis Lawrenceresponsible for directing the last three Hunger Games feature films.

Snow and Lucy’s race against time to survive will eventually reveal who is a songbird and who is a snake.

The feature film will hit theaters on November 17, 2023.
