Avatar 2: Pause at 2 hours and 28 minutes for a small bloody detail

Avatar: The Way of the Water is a family sci-fi blockbuster. However, as MoviePilot points out, one scene in the film is so violent that it caused many gasps in theaters.

Now that the $2.32 billion worldwide film is available on myCANAL, you can finally (re)watch the scene in question. SPOILER ALERT!

Indeed, if you wait exactly 2 hours and 28 minutes, you’ll come across a scene where one of the whales loses an arm in a fight against Tulkun Payakan, one of Pandora’s tattooed whales. The sequence only lasts a few seconds, but Payakan is confronted by his nemesis, hunter Mick Scoresby (Brendan Cowell). During the confrontation, the whale’s arm gets stuck between the solid wall of the boat and the inflexible rope. Thirty tons (the weight of a typical occiput) then press down on Mick Scoresby’s biceps, separating it from the rest of his body. The arm soars in the air, which the audience did not expect!

A scene that means a lot

Behind this gruesome and bloody scene lies, among other things, a story of personal revenge. Payakan actually lost part of his fin in the fight with the hunters. On stage, he takes revenge “an eye for an eye”. The sequence also shows the complex emotions that cunning animals are capable of – and that the war between humans and Pandora involves not only the boat world, but also the animal and plant worlds. When you think about all of this, sequencing takes on a whole new dimension.

As you know, the adventures of Avatar are far from over: while James Cameron is preparing a five-part sci-fi series about Pandora, Sully and Na’vi, three more parts are expected in cinemas. Avatar 3 will be released in our French cinemas on December 17, 2025.

Meanwhile, Avatar: The Waterway will be previewed on myCANAL.
