Luiz Fernando Faria was interviewed by ANSA
President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva began his second visit to Europe in this mandate to Italy today (21), at a favorable moment to advance in the negotiations of the EU-Mercosur agreement, according to the head of the Brazil-Italy Parliamentary Front, the deputy Luiz Fernando Faria, in an interview with ANSA.
Lula’s meetings with the Italian authorities are “extremely relevant for an agreement [entre UE-Mercosul], as Brazil is the largest economy in South America. This relationship is very important.”
Faria commented that he was unaware of the topics that Lula would discuss with the President of the Italian Republic, Sergio Mattarella, and the Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni.
In any case, the politician said that the EU-Mercosur agreement “will have all our unconditional support”, as he believes it will “significantly strengthen” the two blocs.
Faria also stressed that progress in economic relations between Brasilia and Rome is a key part of the agenda of the recently created Parliamentary Front.
“Our front deals a lot with bilateral exchanges. It was an initiative that had a very strong contribution from the Italian ambassador Francesco Azzarello, who understood the importance of strengthening this relationship”, said Faria.
In Brazil, there are about a thousand Italian companies with investments and orders for around 26.2 billion euros, while bilateral trade last year was 10.4 billion.
The deputy highlighted the dynamism of trade, as well as Italian investments in the country.
Faria announced that, starting next Wednesday (21st), the Front will hold a lunch with “more than 20 important Italian entrepreneurs in Brazil, to listen to them and see what contribution” they can make. .
