Quentin Tarantino opined how someone taking offense at a movie is the ‘first response of a very narrow mind’
Known for films with a lot of violence and use terms considered offensive, Quentin Tarantino revealed how he hates trigger warnings in movies. According to the filmmaker, viewers taking offense at the material is the “first response of a very narrow mind.”
During an interview with Liberation, the filmmaker was asked about his opinion on the subject. “I reject the word ‘offended’. Anyone can be offended by anything,” he said. “Frankly, I think most of the time – and there are undoubtedly some exceptions – saying you’re ‘offended’ by a film is the first response of a very narrow mind. ‘I didn’t like it, and here’s why, blah blah blah…'”
But, man, get offended? Art is not offence. And while in rare cases I can understand, it’s just ridiculous to take offense at the content of a movie.
Right away, Tarantino gave an example of something that happened to him: “Here’s a movie that came out in the last ten years – I won’t name it – that really offended me. But the more I thought about it, the more I realized that it was my problem.”
My damn problem. I found it racist. I wanted to punch the director. I still think it’s a racist movie. But it’s just a fucking movie, man.
