Treasury Secretary Rogério Ceron said this Thursday that the government should be ready in September to make its first issue of a sustainable bond and that the exact moment to launch the bond on the international market will depend on the best window of opportunity for the market by the end of the year.
This Thursday, Ceron attended the first meeting of the Sovereign Sustainable Finance Committee, which will be responsible for preparing the emissions framework and subsequently the accountability process for the commitments made in emissions.
“Since the beginning of January we have been working on this agenda, trying to solidify Brazil’s presence in the global sustainable bond market in the second half of the year,” Ceron said, noting that there is great interest from investors foreigners in the country sustainability program.
The secretary said that bodies engaged not only in environmental issues, but also in the fight against hunger, inequality and extreme poverty, are providing subsidies for the preparation of the framework.
In February, Ceron told Reuters that the Treasury was considering issuing up to $2 billion in government bonds linked to environmental commitments in the foreign market by the end of the year.
