Five-time champion, Denilson criticizes the wait for Ancelotti’s selection: “I’m ashamed”

Five-time world champion Denilson didn’t mince words when he spoke about the CBF’s decision to wait for Carlo Ancelotti at the helm of the Brazilian national team. The Real Madrid coach has a contract until June 2024 and should only start working in front of Canarinho’s team in the second half of next year, which is inconceivable for the former striker.

“We are embarrassing ourselves, to be honest. The behavior the CBF is showing seems to lack knowledge of football. We lost respect on the world stage a long time ago because of this kind of behaviour,” said Denilson.

For the former striker, the ideal would be for the Brazilian team to have a coach from the beginning of the cycle for the next World Cup. Considering that Ancelotti will take charge two years into the tournament, the whole process will have to be accelerated.

“We know it’s very difficult for a coach to start a World Cup cycle and reach the World Cup, but it was important for us to have a coach. We recently played two games, against Guinea, who are a fragile team, and Senegal, which has most of its players who play in Europe, and in the end we suffered, we didn’t play well. Now we have to wait. A year and a half for Ancelotti to arrive to manage Brazil. I don’t know if there will be enough time to put together a team, a team that is tuned to reach the World Cup,” he continued.

When asked who should take over the Brazilian national team during the period in which Carlo Ancelotti remains in charge of Real Madrid, Denilson had no doubts.

“I think Dorival JĂșnior or Fernando Diniz. I think Dorival has the advantage if the option is a Brazilian coach,” he concluded.
