To say that it will be desirable! Originally slated for a summer 2021 release, Mission: Impossible 7 was one of the blockbusters hardest hit by the COVID-19 pandemic, being pushed back nearly two years upon arrival. On July 12th, the wait will finally be over…only to begin later.
As its full title clearly suggests, Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part 1 is only the first half of a story that was split in two by its director and co-writer Christopher McQuarrie. For those who have been following the news of the project, this is not news, but the director explained the reasons for this choice.
“I knew I wanted to expand the cast and give each of these characters more to do, so I knew the film would be bigger and longer than throw down“– tells Christopher McQuarrie Collider. “At one point I thought, ‘Why are we fighting like this? Why are we trying to cram it all into two hours? Let’s cut it in half and make two films.”
“That was really the reason that pushed me to do a two-part movie. It’s not just because the story was bigger, but because we wanted more emotion in it.” For the second half of Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise, who apparently refused to take a real shot on the set of Pom Klementieff) and his friends with the terrible Gabriel (Esay Morales), go to French cinemas on June 26, 2024.
If… At the film’s world premiere in Rome, Tom Cruise said that only 40% of Episode 8 had been shot, and that the writers’ strike had blocked it, like many Hollywood projects. Can we expect another delay? Nothing is impossible at this stage. Looking forward to the continuation of the saga, as suggested by Christopher McQuarrie in recent days.
