Since 2020, we haven’t had any news about a sequel to the Tron saga, and yet Tron: Ares is still on the way!
Disney recently announced that Evan Peters, star of the American Horror Story and Dahmer series, has joined Jared Leto in the cast of Joachim Ronning’s feature film (Pirates of the Caribbean: The Salazar’s Revenge).
While we already know that Jared Leto will play Ares, a manifestation of the Tron program, we still don’t know exactly what role Evan Peters will play. However, there are currently two main roles played: the role of a soldier in the virtual world and the role of a gamer in the human realm. So Peters has to play one of these two characters.

Evan Peters has already made a name for himself in the cinema by playing the superhero Quicksilver in X-Men: Dark Phoenix and Deadpool 2.
The first Tron, released in 1982, starred Jeff Bridges as video game developer Kevin Flynn. The latter found himself deformed in his video game, forced to participate in gladiator games, from which he could only escape with the help of a heroic security program.
It is one of the first films to use CGI effects. While the feature film was not a commercial success (it grossed $50 million in theaters on a $17 million budget), it acquired cult status thanks to its release on VHS.
29 years later came Tron, The Legacy of Joseph Kosinski (Mr Top Gun 2), in which Jeff Bridges reprises his role with Garrett Hedlund playing his son, Sam Flynn.

Garrett Hedlund and Jeff Bridges
Trying to unravel the mystery of his father’s disappearance, he finds himself in the same world of scary programs and deadly games where his father lived for 25 years.
Accompanied by Kevin’s loyal relative, father and son embark on a journey where death awaits, through a visually stunning cyberworld that has become more technologically advanced and dangerous than ever…
With a budget of $170 million, the film grossed only $400 million internationally.
In the project since 2015, the third opus seems to be finally moving forward after filming Tron 3 Should be happening in Vancouver next August, provided SAG (Screen Actors Guild) doesn’t go on strike… which could delay Disney’s release of the film.
