Eletrobras said on Saturday it had not yet been notified of a decision by Rio de Janeiro’s regional labor court suspending, through an injunction, layoffs at the company, which was privatized about a year ago.
The company informed “that, once notified of the judicial decision in question, it will consider taking the appropriate judicial measures in the sense of its annulment,” it told Reuters.
He also highlighted, regarding the termination programs, “that he always guides his action in order to fully comply with the Collective Bargaining Agreement freely stipulated with employees in 2022”.
The day before, Judge Karime Simão granted an injunction to the action brought by the union of workers of energy companies of Rio de Janeiro and region (Sintergia-RJ).
“It appears that, in fact, the defendant company has carried out a series of dismissals of its personnel, without providing clear information on the criteria used for these dismissals”, argued the magistrate.
The decision establishes that redundancies are suspended until it is demonstrated that Eletrobras has fulfilled all the obligations set out in the collective labor agreement. Failure to comply with the injunction may result in a fine for the company.
Eletrobras recently announced a new voluntary redundancy program, with the expected exit of up to 1,574 employees, while it is hiring employees to reach what the company’s CEO has classified as the balanced number of employees for, from 7,500 to 8,000 employees.
