For a decade and eight films, Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint have lent their qualities to the iconic trio of the Harry Potter saga. The franchise has become one of the most profitable of all time, earning at least $7.7 billion worldwide. Inevitably, Warner Bros. needed a way to reboot the machine.
If Fantastic Beasts can expand JK Rowling’s universe – with much less success – the studio wants to offer a new adaptation of seven books for the Max platform – owned by HBO – with an entirely new cast.
The project was signed last April, and while no name has been announced, Daniel Radcliffe has already made it known that he was “absolutely not looking” for the role for this re-reading. he asked on the comicbook.com websiteHe explains:
“From what I understand, they are trying to start from scratch, and whoever is behind this project, I’m sure, will want new faces.” They probably don’t want to find a way to throw in an old Harry Potter cameo somewhere. So I’m absolutely not trying to be part of the project, but I certainly wish them all the luck in the world and can’t wait to pass the torch. But I doubt I can physically do it to them.“
Casey Bloys, director of content for HBO and HBO Max, promises “faithful adaptation“. If nothing is confirmed yet, some rumors talk about a 2025 to 2026 broadcast.
