Mattarella ends his trip to South America this Saturday
During an unprecedented visit to Paraguay, the president of Italy, Sergio Mattarella, highlighted the strong ties that unite the two countries.
“There has always been a very strong friendship and one that is developing and growing more and more”, declared the head of state in a meeting with the Italian community in Asunción.
“The assonance of values that binds the two countries is a reason to increase collaboration in all fields, political, economic and cultural”, added Mattarella, who is the first Italian president to visit Paraguay.
The trip follows a journey through Chile and is expected to conclude this Saturday (8) with a visit to the Itaipu Hydroelectric Plant on the border with Brazil.
Accompanied by his daughter Laura, Mattarella also went to the Centro Cultural El Cabildo, in Asuncion, where he was received by dancers in traditional clothes who performed a typical dance in which they balance bottles on their heads.
During his visit to Paraguay, the Italian head of state also met with President Mario Abdo Benítez and elected representative Santiago Peña, who will take office in August.
Furthermore, he stated that the summit between the European Union and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), on July 17 and 18, could be a support for world peace.
