The long-awaited Barbie presents a star-studded cast. And to help these actors bond, Margot Robbie threw a slumber party for her and her fellow Barbies!
Speaking to People magazine (via ComingSoon ), Simu Liu – who plays one of the Kens in the film – said:
Margot was so amazing. She had a slumber party with the Barbies before the photo shoot, and the Kens were allowed to either visit them briefly or call and say hello. So we made sure to show our support, but not too much in our presence. And all the barbies and kens participated in the group chat.
But for one particular actor, group chat was unavailable.
“I don’t have an iPhone myself… I have a flip phone”, said Michael Cera, who portrays a character named Alan in the feature film. “But I still think I didn’t belong with him anyway, because Alan is in his own little world. Greta’s gift to me when I arrived was a CD of NSYNC’s “No Strings Attached,” which was, in a way, a real guide to the character’s origin story.“
Issa Rae, who plays President Barbie in the film, detailed some of the activities the cast and crew took part in on set, while lamenting missing out on the famous slumber party.
“I arrived late. I was very sad. But there was so much activity to approach. Simu’s birthday happened there. Margot and Tom had movie nights.“
MARGOT ROBBIE’S WEEKLY PINK DAYS.
Ryan Gosling, the lead Ken in Greta Gerwig’s film, also revealed some small secrets of the shoot. The “Pink Days” actress specifically recalled that Margot Robbie Organized for the cast and crew where everyone had to wear pink or fine.
“Margot had this pink day once a week where everyone had to wear something pink. And if not, you will be fined“- he said. “He went to collect fines and donated to charity. What was really special was how excited the male team members were. At the end of the movie, they all got together and made pink t-shirts with rainbow wings with their own money.“

He added: “It was an opportunity for them to show their respect and admiration for what Margot and Greta were creating. It was almost like that scene at the end of Dead Poets Society where they stand up on their desks and say, “Oh Captain! My captain!’“
Barbie will debut in our theaters on July 19, 2023.
