This Sunday, the decision of the Brazilian Equestrian Championship, at the Sociedade Hípica Paulista, marked the 5th of seven observers on national soil for the formation of Team Brasil de Salto in the Pan-American 2023, in Chile. Olympic rider Doda Miranda was crowned champion with the DTC Dinozo Un Prince who, of course, took over the leadership of the Brazilian senior ranking.
The GP, at 1.60m, with Gabriel Malfatti’s frame, had two different routes and only Doda and DTC Dinozo Un Prince, a 10-year-old French saddle just completed, guaranteed a double zero. Doda who won the 1st race in addition to the GP Final closed the championship with only 1 foul counted in the 2nd fraction. Having lived in Europe for some time, it had been 18 years since 50-year-old Olympic and Pan-American medalist Doda failed to secure the title of top senior Brazilian champion and is now fifth: 1996/2001/2003/2005/2023.
Second place went to the young talent 3rd Sgto Paulo Brasileiro de Miranda, 23, who riding Kentucky M, a 10-year-old BH, was leading the competition and ended up calculating 15 dropped points (pp) in the final race . 3rd place went to Stephan Barcha, two-time Brazilian senior top champion 2021/2022, who recently joined Brazil’s gold and silver squads respectively in the 5* Nations Cup in La Baule, France and St. Gallen, Switzerland. Stephan specially came from Europe for the competition and competed with Chevaux Goldfinger Império Egipcípcio who hit a strange obstacle on the 2nd course of the GP finishing with 13 pp and the championship with 18.
Doda now leads the Brazilian senior standings with 98 points and Stephan Barcha is second, 91.5 points. For Doda, the leadership doesn’t necessarily put him in contention for a seat at the Pan. “I’ve always defended the idea that the team should form on the European circuit. In my opinion, we have six very strong groups active abroad to form the team at the Pan. But, of course, if I can help the team in a moment, I’ll be always available to my country”.
The 4th place on the podium went to the top carioca Stephanie Macieira with Rasputin JMen II, 2nd place in the Final GP with 10 pp and 19 in the championship, same score as Lucio Osório riding Schweinsteiger, for São Paulo, the criterion is the best place in the final race. Vitor Dantas Medeiros with N10 More Than Extra, representing São Paulo, finished the podium in 6th place, 21 pp.
Towards the Pan, qualification for an Olympic place
The penultimate observatory in Brazil towards the Pan will be at the National Salto 78th Anniversary of the Sociedade Hípica Paranaense, between 8/3 and 6, and the last will move the CSI-W5* Longines São Paulo Horse Show – the 33rd Indoors at the Sociedade Hípica Paulista, from 22/8 to 27/8.
Important GPs in Brazil and abroad and Nations Cups are part of the preparation and observation for the formation of Team Brazil in the Pan American 2023. The jump is scheduled between 10/31 and 11/4. Pedro Paulo Lacerda, accompanying the Brazilian Senior Top, is the boss of the team and Phillipe Guerdat, the coach of Team Brasil.
