Even with complaints, Harrison Ford wore iconic Indiana Jones costumes and entered the history of cinema

Interpreter of one of the most iconic and recognizable characters of hollywood, Harrison Ford revealed how he didn’t take costume design very seriously Indiana Jones when he saw him for the first time, mainly because of the whip.

During an interview with QA, ford commented on how, during preparation for the first film in the franchise, Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981), saw the costume with a leather jacket, whip and fedora hat, which the actor stapled to his head during filming so it wouldn’t fly off in action scenes – and it left scars to this day.

“It was presented to me as an aspect of the character in the first film. My questions about it were many,” stated the artist in the conversation. “Why am I wearing a leather jacket in the jungle? Isn’t it hot in here? Why am I carrying a whip? What am I going to do with a f***ing whip? Am I going to whip people?”

Right away, Harrison Ford commented on how the clothes of Indiana Jones, especially the hat, was “an evocation of an era” and “a reflection of previous films.” The actor even explained how, as much as he didn’t like the character’s clothing in the first film, he had no arguments against it, so he wore everything they asked.
