It was one of the most anticipated series of 2023: The Last of Us, the adaptation of the famous video game by Neil Druckman and Craig Mazin, exceeded all the expectations of the fans.
A huge success when it aired across the Atlantic on HBO and France’s Prime Video, the series hosted by Pedro Pascal and Bela Ramsey was one of the year’s unmissable series events.
It’s no surprise that The Last of Us is one of the most nominated series at the upcoming Emmy Awards, with 24 nominations, a record for a video game adaptation.
Entries for The Last of Us Emmy Awards
First of all, the series made history because it is the first adaptation of a video game to be nominated in the category of the queen, namely the best drama series. Among his other honors are nominations for Pedro Pascal as Best Actor in a Drama Series and Bela Ramsey as Best Actress in a Drama Series.
Other notable nominations: Best Directing and Best Writing for a Drama Series Episode for Peter Hoare and Craig Mazin’s masterful Episode 3 of Bill & Frank. New video game adaptations are on the rise, as is the success of Arcane on Netflix, which won several Emmys and Annie Awards last year.
And finally, the last historical nomination for The Last of Us: Young Kevon Woodard’s interpreter for young deaf Sam. The 10-year-old actress is featured in the Best Guest Actress category. Drama series and she is the youngest nominee in this category and the second youngest Emmy Award nominee of all time!
As happy as The Last of Us nominations are, co-creator Craig Mazzini has his eye on the writers’ strike — and the actors’ strike ahead! – which prevents the future 2nd season of the series from being written and canned. He shared his feelings in a press release Entertainment Weekly :
“I’m honored to be recognized by the Academy, but even more so to see how many of our brilliant cast and crew were nominated for their work on The Last of Us. That said, my priority right now is to see the day when all artists and craftspeople in the entertainment industry are treated fairly Companies that make our work profitable.
Working within union rules, I plan to focus all promotional efforts on supporting The Last of Us team. Our industry team members are equally affected by this labor action. It is imperative that we show them our enthusiasm and our love is more important than ever.”
