Barbie: Greta Gerwig wants sequels: ‘A bunch of different Barbie movies’

Greta Gerwig directed the film starring Margot Robbie; filmmaker is already thinking about Barbie sequels, which haven’t even premiered yet

Barbie nor opened in theaters around the world, but the film’s director, Greta Gerwigalready talking about possible sequels, and revealed how he would like to see “a bunch of different films” of the iconic doll.

It is worth remembering how the film had the highest pre-sales in Brazil in 2023 so far. During an interview with Peoplethe filmmaker, also responsible for the script, explained how she hopes that the production “is the launch of a world and a bunch of different Barbie movies.”

“There’s a tone and humor and joy, and obviously the world is so beautiful. I want to go back to barbie land,” stated gerwig. Right away, Margot Robbieinterpreter of Barbie protagonist and producer of the film, praised the work of the director.

Greta there’s this very specific thing where she can be very silly and very smart at the same time, but she’s also very sincere,” he said. “Her humor never feels cynical or cold. It’s always warm and loving, but also really, really silly and kind of crazy and absurd.”

I actually think it’s a bit of a throwback in tone. To be honest, I don’t feel like I’ve seen a movie that utilizes this type of comedy in a long, long time.
