Prime minister colonel arrested for acting in 8/1 is found passed out in barracks jail

Arrested by order of the Supreme Federal Tribunal (STF) in the investigation investigating the conduct of the Military Police in the attacks of 8 January, the colonel of the Military Police of the Federal District, Jorge Eduardo Naime, felt ill in the barracks where he is being held in the early hours of this Thursday the 13th. He needed to be rushed to a public hospital.

According to his lawyer Gustavo Mascarenhas, the colonel passed out. A guard officer heard a noise in the cell and ran to the colonel’s aid. Also according to the lawyer’s report, Colonel Naime was taken to the Hospital de Base, treated and has since returned to prison.

“The police officer in custody heard a noise, found him unconscious, probably hit his head, that’s why he made a noise and was immediately taken to hospital. We are still waiting for the results of the tests, it was probably a hypoglycemic crisis because he already had a case of prediabetes,” Mascarenhas said.

On 26 June, Naime testified to the Joint Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry (CPMI) on 8 January. In the session, he said that the Prime Minister was prevented by the Armed Forces from demobilizing the coup camps set up in front of the army headquarters in Brasilia after the defeat of former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) in the 2022 elections.

“We were prevented. We didn’t even manage to do what was planned. The PM was in the greatest disrepute,” he said, “If I tell a general that I have the conditions to make a withdrawal, it’s because I have them,” said Naime. “We had limited our actions in that territory,” he continued. He also said that the intelligence information was not passed on to the prime minister’s field of operations and therefore there was not enough force to contain the invaders on 8 January.

“The Military Police fulfilled its mission, but did not have the information to place the necessary personnel”, he continued, denying the accusations of the MPs on a possible omission of the PM.

Prior to the deposition session, Naime submitted a medical certificate not to testify. The document said she suffered from depression and an anxiety disorder. After being scrutinized by the Senate Medical Committee, the policeman backed down and decided to testify.
