Alcaraz defeats Medvedev for the long-awaited Wimbledon final against Djokovic

Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz secured the Wimbledon final the world wanted to see against Serbian Novak Djojovik by pulling off a brutal and sometimes breathtaking demolition job against Russia’s Daniil Medvedev on Friday to secure a comfortable 6-3, 6- 3, 6-3 in the semifinal.

The 20-year-old phenom will now face a generational battle against seven-time tournament champion Djokovic, 36, who beat Italy’s Jannik Sinner on center court to reach his 35th Grand Slam final.

Initially it looked like there might be an even contest between Alcaraz and Medvedev as the third seeded Russian, who like Alcaraz was playing in his first Wimbledon semi-final, held off the pace of the first seed for a while.

But from the moment Alcaraz broke Medvedev’s serve to take a 5-3 lead in the first set, the Spaniard seemed to conquer tennis’s biggest stage for himself with a flawless performance.

A Grand Slam semi-final should be hard work, but at times world number one Alcaraz has toyed with his opponent using his vast arsenal of shots to ruthlessly dismantle the 27-year-old.

His opponent in the final will be Djokovic, who defeated Alcaraz in the semifinals of the French Open last month and is looking to match a record eighth Wimbledon title to become the oldest men’s champion and equal Margaret Court’s record of 24 Wimbledon titles. It bangs.

The Serbian hasn’t lost on Wimbledon center court for 10 years, but Alcaraz said he was ready for the challenge.

“Everyone knows it’s going to be really tough, but I’m going to fight, I’m going to believe I can beat him here,” the defending US Open champion said on the court.
