Robert Downey Jr. recalled casting auditions alongside Kate Winslet for ‘Love Doesn’t Take a Vacation’, in which he would play a British

It’s not uncommon for several American-born actors to need to perfect a British accent, or vice versa, but in the case of Robert Downey Jr., the actor seems not to be the favorite choice. The actor revealed that Kate Winslet once criticized him for having the “worst British accent” ever.

In an interview with The Howard SternShow, robert remembered having done the casting test with Kate for the romantic comedy Love Doesn’t Take A Vacation (2006). In season, downey read for the role that would later be played by Jude Lawthe director’s favorite Nancy Meyers for the paper.

The two of us were called just to fill the seat… [a diretora Nancy Meyers] needed someone to read with the girls and we’re sitting there thinking, ‘It’s about to happen for us.’ And I thought, ‘I have to have a better English accent than Jude Law at this point.’

In the moment that robert was trying to convince himself, “Winslet said, ‘That’s the worst British accent I’ve ever heard.’ downey jr. remembers replying, saying, “I’ll check now, but I’m taking the gummy bears out of the fridge.”
