Palmeiras met with midfielder Wendel’s representative on Tuesday (18). However, he came across the high values required by Zenit, by Russia, for a negotiation in this transfer window. The player has an excellent internal rating and even received a poll from Verdão earlier this year.
Now, in July, the club has received signals from an intermediary, informing the possibility of negotiation. Thus, this afternoon, the meeting between the board of directors and the player’s coach took place.
The Zenit midfielder intends to leave football in Russia, but is having difficulty finding an agreement with other clubs. One of them is Fenerbahçe from Turkey who have expressed great interest in having the athlete.
The Russians want 20 million euros (R$108 million), with a 5 million euro bonus (R$27 million). Although the value is negotiable, the transfer includes large values. Wages would also represent a high cost over the course of the contract.
Negotiations between the parties could open new chapters, even if the chances of agreement are remote. The transfer window ends on August 2, on the eve of the first match against Atlético-MG for the Copa Libertadores.
Unveiled by Fluminense, the midfielder arrived in Europe in 2018 to defend Sporting from Portugal. He moved to Zenit in 2020, where he became three-time champion of Russia and twice in the Russian Super Cup.
Now 25, Wendel is coming off a good 2022/23 season. He played in 31 games, with nine goals and five assists.
