While Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny is still in theaters and on Netflix, subscribers are enjoying another movie starring Harrison Ford, Sydney Pollack’s paranoid thriller Random Hearts or Shadow of Suspicion, released in November 1999 in France.
Washington Police Department internal affairs investigator William Van Den Broeck, known as “Dutchman” (H. Ford), discovers that his wife was among the passengers, but under an assumed name, when the plane crashed. She apparently had an affair with a man who turns out to be the congressman’s husband (Kristin Scott Thomas). Obviously, the drama hides a more complicated matter than meets the eye…
The paranoid thriller genre is not new, but in the late 90s it experienced a resurgence of appeal for studios that released Arlington Road (Screen Gems), Eyes Wide Shut (Warner Bros), Enemy of the State (Buena Vista Pictures Distribution). ) and Shadow of a Doubt (Columbia).
In the latter, we find Charles S. in the cast. to Daton Sydney Pollack Richard Jenkins himself, Susannah Thompson, Edie Falco and a very young Kate Mara, who will appear in the second feature film of her career.

If we can worry that the point of view taken is that of a policeman, where a congressman’s point of view would have been preferable to make the film less “cold”, Shadow of a Doubt retains its actors and classics, but. A solid production from Pollack, who signs off with Sean Penn and Nicole Kidman in his last film before The Interpreter.
Either way, Netflix viewers are giving it a chance, perhaps out of a desire to discover an old Ford film or to see it in an already well-known but solid thriller.
