Record: Dwayne Johnson becomes the highest-paid actor of all time for an Amazon movie

After experiencing several commercial failures in cinema and before returning to the Fast & Furious franchise, Dwayne Johnson is set to star in a Christmas comedy on Prime Video. Entitled Red One, this action film, billed as an extraordinary reinterpretation of the year-end films, is directed by Jake Kasdan (Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle) from a script by Chris Morgan (The Fast and the Furious: Hobbs and Shaw).

This new feature film reunites the former wrestler with the former Captain America! Indeed, Red One also counts Chris Evans in its cast, but also Kiernan Shipka (The New Adventures of Sabrina), Lucy Liu (Shazam 2), Nick Kroll (Don’t Worry Darling), Christopher Hivju (Game of Thrones) and J.K. Simmons (Spiderman) as Santa Claus.

This return to streaming on Netflix after the Red Notice box set, in which he shared a poster with Ryan Reynolds and Gal Gadot, should allow Dwayne Johnson to succeed. But Red One allows him to pocket Hell’s fortune above all else.

A note for Dwayne Johnson

Indeed, according to PuckNews ( with the help of DirectDwayne Johnson was paid $50 million to play Callum Drift, an ELF commander in Red One. This is the highest salary in his career.

But that’s not all, because Dwayne Johnson has broken an incredible record, as it is simply the largest salary that an actor has received for a single role. Black Adam’s interpreter becomes Hollywood’s highest-paid actor of all time.

He beat Will Smith and Robert Downey Jr., the previous record holders, who were paid $40 million for their roles in The Williams Method (which earned him the Best Actor Oscar) and Captain America: Civil War, respectively.

Dwayne Johnson hit a huge career milestone with this salary, as he was paid $23.5 million for his roles in Jumanji: The Next Level and Red Notice, $22.5 million for Black Adam, $22 million, $20 million for Jungle Cruise: Welcome to the Jungle, and $20 million for Fast & Furious: For Hobbs and Shaw.

This exorbitant salary is explained by the fact that streaming platforms take advantage of the popularity of their headliner and pay them in advance for “potential guaranteed success” because the film will not be released in theaters. Salaries received for theatrical performances combine a fixed salary and a percentage of the turnover achieved at the box office.

Whether Prime Video’s bet pays off remains to be seen. As of now, the platform has not released any images or teasers for Red One, nor has it released a release date. But this Christmas blockbuster should be online before the end of the year.
