One Piece: See the live action version of the characters in the new trailer

Netflix unveiled a new One Piece live-action trailer on Friday night (21st) in honor of One Piece Day taking place this Saturday (22nd). The date is celebrated by fans of the anime and manga that give rise to the series.

In addition to the new preview, the creator of the original work, Eiichiro Oda, has released a letter to fans. “I fell so much in love with the crew and cast that I can’t wait to see them receive the applause they deserve from audiences around the world. And if anyone wants to complain, I’ll be here to bring the criticism along,” says an excerpt.

The author’s statement may be referring to fans’ distrust of live action. Given Netflix’s complicated history with this type of production, many anime lovers have reacted with criticism to the first images of One Piece.

In collaboration with Shueisha, One Piece is produced by Tomorrow Studios and Netflix. Matt Owens and Steven Maeda are writers, executive producers and showrunners.
