Will Sandman have a second season? Everything we know about the continuation of the series

After years of waiting, we finally have the live-action adaptation of Sandman, the acclaimed comic series by Neil Gaiman. The first season of the series was a resounding success, reaching the top of the Netflix list and winning millions of fans around the world. Now everyone is eager to know when we will be able to enjoy the second season of Sandman.

Sandman season 2 preview

Netflix has confirmed that more episodes of Sandman are on the way, although it hasn’t provided too much relevant information. In November 2022, the streaming platform announced that “more episodes are coming”. In an interview with Den of Geek, executive producer David S. Goyer revealed that the team is already working on writing episodes for season 2.

Due to the large scope of the series, which involves a combination of visual and practical effects, it is certain that production of the second season will take some time. Filming for the first season began in October 2020 and it only arrived on Netflix in August 2022. Even with a more accelerated schedule, production on the second season has already begun, but the prediction is that it will only premiere during the first half of 2024.

The cast returns for the second season

Fans will be happy to hear that many of the original cast members will be returning for The Sandman Season 2. This includes Tom Sturridge as Dream, Kirby Howell-Baptiste as Death, Mason Alexander Park as Desire, Vivienne Acheampong as Lucienne, Patton Oswalt as Matthew the Raven and Gwendoline Christie as Lucifer.

In addition to the main characters, supporting characters are also likely to return, such as Roderick Burgess (played by Charles Dance), John Dee (played by David Thewlis), Johanna Constantine (played by Jenna Coleman), Lyta Hall (played by Razane Jammal) and Rosa Walker (played by Vanesu Samunyai).

What to expect from Sandman season 2?

The epic final scene of the first season makes Lucifer Morningstar the great antagonist of the second season. Also, the story of Dream and Nada’s relationship will play a big role. The creators of the series have revealed that the second season will explore how they fell in love and how Nothing ended up in Hell.

During the series we will also meet the other Infinites, in addition to Dream, Death and Desire, which already appeared in the first season. Fate, Delirium and Destruction will have their stories revealed, triggering the events of the “Season of Mists”.

Plans for the series extend beyond the second season, with the possibility of spin-offs and the exploration of secondary character stories. Showrunner Allan Heinberg mentioned Johanna Constantine as an interesting character that could be given more prominence.

Both Neil Gaiman and Allan Heinberg have expressed a desire to continue the series for several seasons as long as there is support from viewers. The cast is also excited to explore the complex family dynamic of Infinites.

With so much exciting promise, Sandman fans have much to look forward to in Season 2, which should deliver even more awesome adventures and surprising twists.
