Reflective composition by Kiko Zambianchi was created when the artist suffered from the still undiagnosed disease
It’s safe to say that the biggest hit of Initial Capital it was not composed by the band itself. “First Mistakes (It Rains)”creation of Kiko Zambianchihad already received versions of Wolf, Simony and the artist himself when, in 2000, it was re-recorded by the vocalist’s group Dinho Ouro Preto in your MTV acoustic. As a result, the album sold over 1 million copies. Today, it is the band’s most streamed song on Spotify, with nearly 80 million plays.
In an interview with the website G1, Zambianchi revealed to have composed “First mistakes” in a difficult moment of his life. Born in Ribeirão Preto, the artist had moved to São Paulo with the intention of investing in his musical career. Professionally, he did well; on a personal level, he suffered a lot from the loneliness of being in a huge city without knowing anyone.
“’First Errors’ was created at a time when I had panic disorder and had not yet been diagnosed. The disease did not exist and I suffered from it for a long time. I was in São Paulo, it was a very lonely period, I came from Ribeirão, where I was a popular guy, I knew everyone, I had many friends, and I arrived in São Paulo, that thing, nobody knows anyone. […] ‘Primeiros Erros’ was made with several songs during this period when I was going through these troubles in São Paulo.”
The song was introduced in the first album of Kiko, Shock (1985),but it was not picked up by EMI as a single. The idea was to work on the dissemination of “Roll the Stones” and the track that gives the album its name. When it was time to “First mistakes”, the executives immediately wanted the artist to record another work.
“I took the record under my arm and went to the radio showing the song without the record company, saying that I was working on that song, and to my joy, that’s how it happened. The other radios saw that the radio [que aceitou tocar a canção] was number one, they went to see what they were playing and ‘First Mistakes’ was there between the songs, and they started playing. So it was the first time it happened, in the 80s, 1985, early 1986. The record company itself was kind of forced to make a video, to make a single to send to the radio, because it started to be played a lot.”
“First Mistakes” and Initial Capital
A decade later, Simony re-recorded “First mistakes”, which ended up being included in the soundtrack of the telenovela heads and tails (1996). But the ultimate breakthrough came with the Initial Capitalwhich came from a low period and even a few years without Dinho Ouro Preto in training. The song entered the repertoire of Acústico MTV, from which Kiko Zambianchi participated playing guitar and doing backing vocals. He recalls:
“They were totally focused on ‘First Mistakes’ and I think they got it right. It was a good choice and for me it was great, because I thought I had been very successful with Simony, when Capital came out it really was a very big success.”
