DC is announcing a remake of one of the greatest superhero movies of all time

Although the focus is on the reboot of the franchise orchestrated by James Gunn, DC Comics studios remind us that they are also known for adapting their most famous superhero adventures into animation.

Over the years, famous comics like The Dark Knight Returns or Superman Red Son have been adapted into animated feature films, most often with full respect for the original work. And this tradition will not be abandoned by DC, despite the plans developed by James Gunn to give the franchise a fresh start!

Thus, during a panel organized at Comic-Con in San Diego, DC studios confirmed that two new animated feature films will soon see the light of day, destined for streaming platforms (and the DVD/Blu-ray market).

In particular, the adaptation of the cult comics Crisis on Infinite EarthsAlready adapted into a live-action Arrowverse mega-crossover series!

In this popular comic published in the mid-1980s, DC Comics’ most iconic superheroes travel across the multiverse to face a world-destroying villain, but also the most terrifying super-villain team ever created!

A new adaptation of Watchmen!

But that’s not all, as DC studios have also announced the production of the animated feature Watchmen, adapted from the comics of the same name by Alan Moore and David Gibbons. In a dystopian future, former superheroes reunite after one of their own is murdered by a mysterious serial killer…

Expected in 2024, this new comic book adaptation will be released in a year that also marks the fifteenth anniversary of the release of Zack Snyder’s Watchmen, considered one of the greatest superhero films of all time.

The short film Watchmen: Tales of the Black Vessel was created as a supplement to the Zack Snyder film.

Note that this won’t strictly be the first Watchmen adaptation into an animated film, as the animated short Watchmen: Tales of the Black Vessel, adapted alongside the main comic book storyline, was included in the bonus features of Zack Snyder’s Ultimate Edition of the film.

Two new animated films, Crisis on Infinite Earths and Watchmen, will be available in 2024 on Amazon Prime Video through a Pass Warner subscription.
