It is one of the best-selling manga of all time, and every year the franchise tops the list of the highest-grossing anime in the world. Therefore, it cannot be said that more than thirty years after its creation, Dragon Ball remains a major saga in the Japanese animation industry.
On October 5, French audiences were able to discover the twenty-first feature film of the franchise, called Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero.
Designed as an indirect sequel to the previous Crystal movie, this opus is also intended as a return to the roots of the Dragon Ball Z anime with the return of two popular characters Gohan and Piccolo, but also a villain well known to manga fans!
But this new installment also marked the history of the franchise, becoming the first film in the saga to be completely animated in computer graphics. A major aesthetic change that clearly didn’t sit well with the most die-hard fans of the original series.
The worst movie in the saga?
Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero also introduced two new transformations for its main characters. A change that didn’t go unnoticed in the manga’s continuity, and the choice was also heavily criticized by fans.
Despite being a relative success in cinemas in France with almost 400,000 admissions (Brol still had 560,000), Dragon Ball Super: Super Broly is considered by internet users to be one of the worst movies in the saga.
Out of a total of 770 ratings (including 163 reviews), the film thus achieved an AlloCiné record audience rating of barely 2.7 out of 5 (only Super Warrior Attack scored worse, of course, if we include the infamous Dragonball Evolution).
