The player has become a sensation in Italy following his performances for Azzurra
The Italian-Argentine striker Mateo Retegui, a great sensation for the Azzurra, underwent medical tests this Tuesday (25) to be presented as Genoa’s new reinforcement for next season.
The trial was supposed to take place in Milan, where he landed yesterday from Argentina, but was transferred to Genoa after the bad weather that hit Lombardy.
The striker will sign a contract valid for the next five years and will be the great reinforcement of newly promoted Genoa in Serie A. The rossoblù have spent around 12 million euros plus bonuses to remove Retegui from Boca Juniors.
“I am very happy to be here, it is an honor and a great opportunity for me,” Retegui told reporters at the medical clinic.
Unknown to Italian football until Roberto Mancini’s call-up to the national team, Retegui caused a sensation in his homeland by scoring two goals in three games for the Azzurri.
The arrival of the Italian-Argentine is Genoa’s biggest attraction in the current transfer window. Coach Alberto Gilardino should partner Retegui with Icelandic multitalent Albert Gudmundsson in his 3-5-2 formation. .
