we already know the protagonists of the long-awaited adaptation of ‘Red Queen’ on Amazon Prime Video: Vicky Luengo and Hovik Keuchkerian. The first installment of the successful trilogy by Juan Gómez-Jurado, the best-selling book in Spain for the third consecutive year, jumps to the small screen with a series produced by Dopamine and Focus, which will start filming soon.
Luengo surprised as the protagonist of ‘Antiriot’, Rodrigo Sorogoyen’s series on Movistar +, and Keuchkerian was part of the phenomenon of Netflix’s ‘La casa de papel’, in which he played Bogotá. Now, both will immerse themselves in the acclaimed story through the characters of Antonia Scott and Jon Gutiérrez, protagonists of the novel. “Antonia Scott has one of the most fascinating minds I’ve ever read. From the moment I started learning her story, I was hooked by her light and the complexity of her. I’m looking forward to learning how to deal with monkeys from her.” Vicky Luengo has told. Her partner adds about Gutiérrez: “Sancho Panza had a pending update.”

‘Red Queen’ follows the smartest person on Earth. Literally: With an IQ of 242, Antonia Scott has superior intelligence that earned her the chance to become the Red Queen of an experimental, secret police project.. However, as is often the case, what seemed like a gift soon becomes a curse that leads her to lose everything. When the son of a powerful tycoon is found murdered in her mansion, and the daughter of the richest man in Spain is kidnapped, the Red Queen organization is on the move again. Antonia joins forces with Jon Gutiérrez, a temperamental Basque police officer about to be expelled from the force, to start a twisted game of cat and mouse. in which they are involved during their investigation.
As defined by Amazon Prime Video, ‘Reina Roja’ is “a disturbing thriller in which the city of Madrid is one more protagonist, and that combines the urgency and action of the investigation with the juicy and humorous chemistry between its two protagonists”. The series will adapt only the first installment, and its sequels are pending, ‘Loba Negra’ and ‘Rey Blanco’, which could serve as material for future seasons.
The series has showrunner and executive producer to Amaya Muruzábal, and the script is in charge of Muruzábal herself together with Salvador Perpiñá. Filming will begin throughout this year 2022 and the official release date on Amazon Prime Video is still unknown. We await it with great anticipation, since it could become one of the best Spanish series on Amazon Prime Video.
