30 years ago to the day Last Action Hero hit our French screens, John McTiernan’s Arnold Schwarzenegger film set out to parody typical action movies.
Although the feature fell short of studio box office expectations and was both a critical and commercial disappointment, it has since become a cult classic, with some calling it Schwarzenegger’s most underrated film. According to the actor, if the film was not successful, it would be because he was campaigning for George W. Bush at a time when Bill Clinton won. The hero of the last act It follows the adventures of Danny Madigan (Austin O’Brien), an eleven-year-old movie buff who, thanks to a magical ticket, can be transported to the fictional world of his favorite action movie hero: Jack Slater (Schwarzenegger), a modern-day crusader. Together they face danger and always win, but things get complicated when unscrupulous people take the magic ticket and reach New York, where crime pays more than movies.
