Living his run as top scorer of the season, Samuel Xavier joked when asked in a press conference about his goals for the season. In his last two games for Libertadores, the right-back scored twice for Fluminense against Argentinos Juniors.

– I had the goal of scoring 23 goals. Seriously, I have not set goals. The people who play there are usually in the defensive side, we want to help a lot with marking and of course with attacking support. These goals are consequences, but I’m happy to score many.

This Sunday, Fluminense will face Grêmio for the Brazilian championship, while the duels against Olimpia for the quarter-finals of the Libertadores will take place in the last two weeks of August. Tricolor seeks the unprecedented title of the biggest competition in South America.
