Missing Bullet Hits Netflix: Why the Action Movie Was Taken From Theaters

Aired tonight on TF1, Balle perdu by Guillaume Pierret follows the misadventures of Lino, an expert mechanic specializing in the manufacture of ram cars. Arrested after a robbery, he is eventually recruited by the Anti-Go Fast Squad, who intends to use his knowledge to fight crime.

But just as Lino is on the verge of redemption, his mentor is also killed and the killing falls on him. To prove his innocence, he now has no choice but to find the missing bullet – lost in the car – that was used to kill his friend.

A true hit on Netflix in June 2020, Lost Ball is one of the first French action films produced and broadcast by the famous platform. Guillaume Pierre’s feature film starring Alban Lenoir, Nicolas Duvachel and Ramsay Bedia, packed with ambitious scenes and quality stunts, has yet to hit theaters.

As producers Rémi Leautier and Mathieu Ageron recently explained on the microphone clean mediaThe Lost Ball script, which was offered to many distributors, did not find takers in the traditional circle:

“For two years I tried to sell “Bal Purdue” to French cinema. I had read the script at Canal, SND, UGC, Gaumont, etc. Nobody wanted it. It was a French thriller, so the two words don’t go together in the ears of French broadcasters.”Remy Leotier said.

In 2018, it was the representative of Netflix who decided to voice the project.

According to the two producers, if French cinema gradually lost interest in action films, it is because the previous proposals in this field were not relevant:

“In France, those who handled this genre lacked ingenuity”Remy Leotier explains, still Our colleagues from Pure Medias.

“There was the golden age of Luc Besson’s ‘EuropaCorp’ and this is it. We haven’t seen a film like this in France for a long time. The public no longer goes to the cinemas to see these films because we no longer offer them the quality. Something that makes them want to move.”

And Mathieu Ageron agrees:

“For many, action rhymes with American film. We were going to understand the ‘French action film’ as something negative, as if we didn’t have the means for our ambitions.”

Despite its modest budget, Lost Ball is now one of the biggest French hits to hit Netflix. After The Lost Ball 2, which was also successful in November 2022, the third and final part, still directed by Guillaume Pierre, will soon close the action saga.
