After speculation, the Stock Car organization presents the new generation of cars in the category, promising more speed and technology
In December of last year, this space had a little talk about what Stock Car was planning for its new car. After all, the model in use has been in use since 2009 and, despite all the changes made over the years, it has already put a strain on all the services provided.
After several months of scarce information, VICAR held an event in Velocittà just before the last Stock Car stage showing various aspects of what will become the new car of the category.
Many of the aspects that had been speculated have been confirmed: the Audace SNG 001 (auto code) will have a smaller engine (4-cylinder 2.1-litre x 5.7-litre V8) with higher power (500 x 460 HP) and a completely new engine, developed with Arcelor Mittal, which is more rigid and which, combined with the new bodywork, gives a “weight loss” of over 30% compared to the current generation (1500kg x 1100kg).

In addition to being lighter and more powerful, the car promises to be more technological. A novelty brings Snapdragon 5G technology to cars, and Grid Technology, together with MTR, has developed a new steering wheel and panel. To get an idea, the pilots will be able to count on the vision of their opponents through the panel.
The concern of VICAR and Audace (developer of the project and one of the holders of the category) was to make a car that meant an evolution of the product used here and that prepared for the future, being in line with what is more modern in the world in the Tourism categories. One of the development managers is José Roberto Avallone, who has been in several categories, including F1.

The mystery still remains in relation to the bodywork: for the images used in the presentation, the Corolla Cross served as a reference. Hammer hasn’t been beaten, but it’s a given that Chevrolet should use the Tracker base since the Cruze is out of line. Toyota should make Cross official soon.
As for the images, there is also the possibility of convergence with the Argentine TC2000, which will use SUVs as the basis for the championship in 2024 and expects to have around 10 brands on the grid. With this new project we are once again talking about new assemblers for Stock Cars.
If the new profile weren’t enough, Stock Car promises to introduce the F1 DRS into the category, without abandoning the Push to Pass. It is one more element to increase the competitiveness of racing and give it an element that motorsport fans are used to. It is not yet clear how this will work…

One of the teams’ concerns is cost. Today, for a top team, a car costs around R$ 2 million/year. To contain costs and try not to create differentiation, Audace will take care of the cars and the teams will receive them to race. In theory, the structure for the operation will be simpler and less expensive.
The initial intention would be to roll out this new car in 2024. However, due to several situations that arose during the process, the rollout will take place in 2025. The tests will be carried out during the test weekends throughout 2024, for the new car tuning.
It’s an interesting and daring step to guarantee Stock Car a place in the main category of national motorsport and one of the main ones in world tourism. Looking at the next steps.
