“Haunted Mansion” is the new Disney movie based on one of its most popular theme park attractions, the spooky haunted mansion.
“Haunted Mansion” is very funny and funny, but most of all I loved that the director Justin Simien was not afraid to make the movie scary and explore dark places even though it was a family movie. One of the aspects I enjoyed the most was the themes of loss and grief. There aren’t many family films that deal with these issues, which can be helpful and important for younger audiences to learn how to deal with grief.
The setting, settings and production design are incredible. They really take us back to the Disneyland park attraction. The ghost design was also fantastic. I really appreciated that they didn’t try to stop them from being scary. They are really scary!
The costumes are gorgeous and have a quirky vintage feel to them, even though we’re in modern times. You can tell a lot of time was invested in the costuming.
The cast is really good. Tiffany Haddish, Owen Wilson, Danny Devito, and Rosario Dawson are hilarious, while Chase Dillon and Lakeith Stanfield do an incredible job of giving the film an emotional foundation. Jared Leto was surprisingly good as the Hatbox Ghost. There are so many fun cameos, from Jamie Lee Curtis, who we saw playing the iconic medium Madame Leota, to many other surprises that I’ll leave you to discover.
In conclusion, director Justin Simien manages to find a balance between fear and fun, making “Haunted Mansion” a thrilling experience for the whole family. The movie is sure to become a Halloween icon.
