MST CPI to propose indictment of landless leaders and indicate link of PT and PSOL with invasions

The report that Estadão had access to is expected to be presented on Tuesday, after the testimony of João Pedro Stédile, leader of the MST. Lula’s government captured the CPI to empty the investigation

BRASÍLIA – The final report of the CPI of the MST will propose the indictment of five leaders involved in the invasion of land areas in the country, according to the Stadium. The text by federal deputy Ricardo Salles (PL-SP) also intends to target the politicians of PT and PSOL, parties traditionally linked to the landless movement.

In an attempt to link the government of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva with the group, Salles must mention in the document members of the two parties who allegedly received financial and political support from the movement. An escalation of land invasions in April prompted the opening of the CPI. Second Stadium found, ten names of politicians will be mentioned in the final report.

The plan is to present the final report and submit it to a vote this Tuesday 15, after the testimony of the leader of the MST, João Pedro Stédile, one of the most eagerly awaited members of the collegiate.

As Estadão revealed, the command of the CPI threatens to bring forward the end of the works in response to the action of the Lula government to empty the investigation. Last week, the government approached the Centrão for a majority in the constituency, which was previously made up mainly of supporters of former president Jair Bolsonaro.

As a reaction to this Planalto movement, Salles, who was Bolsonaro’s environment minister, promises to present a tough report, exposing, according to him, the allocation of public resources to the movement. It will be another political act. Since the final report has to be voted on and the CPI currently has a governing majority, the chances that Salles’ text will be defeated are enormous.

In some sessions of the CPI, Salles had already mentioned what he could present in the report, speaking of the ideological link between the government and the movements. During a session, he questioned whether landless leader José Rainha, of the Campo e Cidade National Front of Struggle (FNL), had called for votes for MP Sâmia Bomfim (PSOL-SP) during the 2022 campaign. complements the base of the Lula government.

The episode produced the first collegiate arrest threat. The Queen initially denied having campaigned politically. Salles insisted on asking questions. You said that the speech could constitute a false testimony and showed a video in which the leader of the landless thanks the parliamentarian for the votes cast. After the presentation, Rainha backed down and confirmed her support.

The PT has three committee members related to the MST: Marcon (LOL), John Daniel (If it’s Valmir Assunção. In a statement to the CPI last Wednesday 9, Vanuza dos Santos de Souza said that Valmir was responsible for ordering his removal from his own home in a settlement in Bahia, and cited political pressure as the reason. “Either you vote, or you lose the land,” she said on what she would hear.

CPI conducted due diligence in the settlements

On Friday 11th the CPI carried out investigations in the settlements of the rural region of Atalaia (AL). From the opposition, Ricardo Salles, the president of the commission, accompanied the proceedings, Lieutenant Colonel Zucco (Republicanos-RS) and Delegate Fábio Costa (União-AL). From the government were João Daniel, Valmir Assunção and Paulão (AL).

In April, members of the MST invaded the superintendence of the National Institute of Colonization and Agrarian Reform (Incra) in Maceió to demand the removal of the superintendent of the body, César Lira, cousin of the Speaker of the Chamber, Arthur Lira (PP-AL ) .

The action – which motivated the creation of the CPI – was part of the “Red April”, the national day of the movement, which mobilized more than a thousand militants organized by the Territorial Pastoral Commission (CPT), including other groups such as the National struggle front (FNL), Landless liberation movement (MLST), Free land movement (MTL), among others.

One of the branches of the opposition investigation in Alagoas allegedly found transfers of BRL 5.9 million from the State Institute of Land and Agrarian Reform over the past seven years to a single company, which provided logistical support with transport and facility to the STD.

According to one of the documents, INCRA called for the absence of procurement for the transport of MST members to “resolve or avoid conflicts involving social movements, such as invasions, demonstrations, etc.”. “Members of social movements in the state, when they find themselves in a situation where their interests are not served, usually carry out protests and invasions to put pressure on government representatives,” the document reads.

Throughout the period, the entity would pay for the rental of the tents, the assembly and dismantling of the infrastructure and the transport of products and food from the fairs, as well as the transport of members to militancy meetings.

The MST and the government’s parliamentarians in the CPI articulate, in parallel, actions in defense of the movement. The deputies of the PSOL and the PT attended one this Thursday 10 in Brasilia, and now they will hold another one on Saturday, in São Paulo, at the camp warehouse, which will be attended by artists and intellectuals.
