Lula says the economy will continue to grow and the result will be shared with the people

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva said on Wednesday that the Brazilian economy will continue to grow and that the result of this economic growth will be shared with the Brazilian population.

In a speech read at the end of Marcha das Margaridas — a movement that brings together, among others, rural, indigenous, quilomboli, riverfront and landless workers –, Lula said that economic growth only makes sense if it improves the lives of people most vulnerable sections of the population.

“Brazil is already better and will improve even more. The economy will continue to grow and we will share the result of this growth,” he said.

“It makes sense for a country to grow only if the wealth of this growth is distributed, gets into your hands, turns the wheel of the economy and improves people’s lives,” he added.

After reading the speech, Lula gave a short speech, in which he said that the ministers who are in his government have reason to stay in office only to serve those who need it most.

The president apologized to the women who participated in the march for making a shorter speech than usual, and justified the brevity for the phone call he will have this afternoon with the president of the United States, Joe Biden.
