Fans have traveled for hours to see Oppenheimer in IMAX and say it was well worth it

Oppenheimer debuted on July 20 and was part of the hit phenomenon known as Barbenheimer. However, the production was shot in a particular format of IMAX and 70mm film that could only be played in 30 theaters worldwide in this format.

Simpler IMAX and digital versions were also released, but hardcore cinephiles weren’t satisfied, and some even traveled to see the work as director Christopher Nolan envisioned it.

Oppenheimer it’s a film that, under any other circumstances, would be hard pressed to succeed: a three-hour drama about physicists talking to each other. However, with Christopher Nolan at the helm, viewers were willing to do anything to watch it in the original version.

This was the case with American Ryan Knapp. As reported by Varietyleft his New Hampshire home at 5:30 in the morning and embarked on a 14-hour journey that involved car, train and bus rides just to see Oppenheimer in IMAX and 70mm. He went to the city of Providence, Rhode Island, where one of the offices of the Canadian company is located.

It was worth it? According to him, absolutely.

Despite having a very limited exhibition, second Variety, the IMAX sessions accounted for 20% of the film’s global opening, grossing $17 million. By comparison, the opening total was approximately $180.4 million.

Oppenheimer it continues to be shown in Brazilian cinemas.
