A first official look at what’s to come with The last of us reveals Pascal’s Joel and Ramsey’s Ellie in what looks like a cliffhanger, and it turns out that some video game actors will have live roles to play.

The last of us is set in a dystopian era two decades after the destruction of modern civilization, with hardened survivor Joel (Pedro Pascal) tasked with sneaking 14-year-old Ellie (Bella Ramsey) out of a quarantine zone to begin a journey that will take you across country. Their survival depends on each other, and the first official photo of the HBO series reveals a glimpse of them in what appears to be a dangerous situation. Look:

The photo is quite dark, but there are some details that can be detected if you look closely enough. Joel and Ellie appear to be crouched in front of some kind of shop window, and there appears to be an American flag hanging behind them. There appears to be a mannequin wearing what looks like a colonial-era kind of jacket over and behind Ellie’s right shoulder. Above and behind Joel there seems to be what I think looks more like a stone bust than another mannequin, which leads me to believe that their journey has taken them to some sort of museum or historical site.

Not to get into video game spoilers, but a museum, or at least a place with patriotic decor, would make sense as a stop on Joel and Ellie’s journey in Season 1. Video game director Neil Druckmann (who is also the executive producer of the HBO show) will premiere some plot deviations from the game to show but the series will adapt the first game . Ashley Johnson and Troy Baker, best known for The last of us Fans of games such as the voices of Ellie and Joel have been chosen for the HBO series. With Bella Ramsey and Pedro Pascal playing their acting roles for the live show, Johnson and Baker will play different characters. There are still no details on the type of characters they will play or whether these characters will be adapted from video games or newcomers to the series.
