Government reduces the interest rate limit on payroll loans to pensioners and pensioners of the INSS to 1.91% per month

The justification presented by the Ministry of Social Security is the reduction of the basic interest rate

BRASILIA – The National Council of social Security decided this Thursday, the 17th, to lower the commissions charged on the payroll loan – the one with the deduction already in the payroll or in the service – to pensioners and pensioners of the National Institute of Social Security (INSS) from the current 1.97% monthly to 1.91%. The decision was made by 13 votes to 1.

The justification presented by the Ministry of Social Security is the drop in the basic interest rate, the Selic, from 13.75% to 13.25% per annum, said the Minister of Social Security, Carlos Lupi, on social media, who is also chairman of the board. The CNPS is made up of government representatives, retirees and retirees, active workers and businesses.

Immediately after the decision of the Monetary Policy Committee of the Central Bank (Copom), Banco do Brasil and Caixa Econômica announced a reduction of the INSS deductible payroll rate to 1.77% and 1.70% per month respectively . This is because the board only sets the interest cap; the commission applied is borne by the financial institutions.

In March, the government recovered lower the ceiling to 1.70% per month, but had to go back after pressure from the bankswho suspended the line after the “pen” Financial institutions have claimed the lack of profitability with the new rate.

After an agreement negotiated in two weeks by Lupi, Rui Costa (Casa Civil) and Fernando Haddad (Finance), arbitrated by Lula, a “middle ground” was defined between the previous rate (2.14%) and the proposal of the board (1.70%). The ceiling was then set at 1.97% per month.
