Completely forgotten, this film with Scarlett Johansson will surprise you with its relevance

Although Scarlett Johansson’s career has been on the rise since she joined the Marvel Universe in 2010 with Iron Man 2, she’s been filming since 1994 and had some (well-appreciated) hits before that, even if only with “Le Prestige” or “The Barber” together”.

But in 2005, three films of the actor were released: The Island in August, Match Point in October and In Good Company in May. However, if moviegoers and fans of the actor remember the first two, much less those who remember the last one.

In Good Company follows the story of 51-year-old Dan Foreman (Dennis Quaid), a prestige kingpin and sales manager for the super-popular sports magazine Sports America. When his magazine is taken over by an international company, Dan must force himself to befriend Carter (Topher Grace), the man who forced him to lay off several employees and take over Sports America. Danny keeps to himself until Carter starts revolving around Alex, his oldest daughter (Johansson).

The film is directed by Paul Weitz, who made For a Boy and American Pie a few years earlier. We find in Good Company its tumultuous side, where this great company is presented as an impersonal monopolistic profit-making business with the upheaval that this entails.

Carter and Dan

Under the guise of comedy, the film also deals with excessive debt through Dan, who has to pay for his daughter’s education, and through Carter, age and loneliness, who has been left by his wife and drowns out his loneliness at work. As for the resolution of their friendship, it still holds a surprise for the last third of the film.

In the end, a good company deserves to be rediscovered, but unfortunately it is not available on any platform during these lines. Gentlemen, streaming services, to your heart’s content!
