Good Omens on Prime Video: But Who Is Beelzebub?

finally! After a four-year wait, the fantasy series Good Omens returns to Prime Video with the new adventures of the angel Aziraphale (Michael Sheen) and the demon Rampa (David Tennant). They found themselves trying to enjoy life on Earth after stopping the apocalypse.

Of course, things don’t go as planned. After a naked archangel – Gabriel (Jon Hamm) – appears at the door of Aziraphale’s bookstore, he has no memory of who he is or how he got there. From there, life becomes extremely difficult for Aziraphale and the retired demon Rampa.

Heaven and Hell are desperately searching for the fugitive. As Rampa and Aziraphale try to arrange a romance between the two people, things become more dangerous for them. The arrival of Heaven and Hell meant we got to see a whole host of new and old characters doing their best to make our favorite duo as chaotic as possible. And among these characters is Beelzebub.

Who is Beelzebub in Good Omens?

Beelzebub – who, according to series co-creator Neil Gaiman, uses the pronoun iel – appears in the first season of Good Omens as Rampa’s boss, a high-ranking demon and Prince of Hell. For a clear comparison, this is the counterpart to the Hellish version of the archangel Gabriel, who in turn is Aziraphale’s guardian for the duration of Armageddon.

In Season 1, Beelzebub tries to convince the Antichrist, Adam Young, to start a war between Heaven and Hell by promising him that he can rule the entire world after the war is over… This is the only time we see Beelzebub smile. The whole season… we see the demon next in the role of the presiding judge of Rampa’s court (but it’s actually Aziraphale).

  • It’s impossible not to recognize this Bridgerton star on Amazon’s funniest series!

The term “Beelzebub” appears in the Bible as one of Satan’s many names, and demonology names this character among the seven princes of hell, also known as “Lord of the Flies” because of his ability to fly. Clearly a path taken by Good Omens, as his version of Beelzebub is constantly seen surrounded by flies and with a fly-like appearance, starting with his headdress.

Beelzebub is an incredibly powerful demon with abilities such as shape-shifting, dimensional travel, flight, immunity to fire and poison, immortality, and the ability to produce swarms of flies to devour anything and everything. Yale also has access to magical powers and can travel through time.

But there’s one thing Beelzebub can’t control in season two of Good Omens… and that’s falling in love with Gabrielle!

Good Omens is currently available on Prime Video.
