Barbie already has a confirmed date to hit streaming platforms

“Barbie” is still in theaters, but there’s already a prediction as to when Greta Gerwig’s new movie will start hitting streaming platforms. Warner Bros. has not yet revealed when the feature film will enter the HBO Max catalog – however, it is already known that it will be available to rent and buy on US digital platforms on September 5th.

For those in a hurry:

Thus, the film with Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling will arrive first on platforms such as Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV and YouTube, as usual. In the rental version, users will have up to 48 hours to watch (and/or review) “Barbie”.

It is important to note that this release date is only applicable to the territory of the United States. There is no information yet on when the film will be available in Brazil, either for purchase, rental, or on demand (when the title is part of the catalog at no extra cost).

In July, Warner Bros. CEO David Zaslav confirmed that the film will be released on HBO Max during the Northern Hemisphere Fall, which spans the period between September and December.

Repercussion of ‘Barbie’

“Barbie” is still shown in Brazilian cinemas and, even before its debut, achieved surprising success. The film earned Warner Bros.’s highest-ever pre-sales in Brazil.

The film established the second highest opening in Brazilian cinemas, grossing nearly BRL 23 million. A total of 1.18 million moviegoers packed into theaters to see the play, according to data from Comscore.

Furthermore, the film has already surpassed a staggering $537.5 million at the US box office, thus surpassing Christopher Nolan’s 2008 superhero epic ‘The Dark Knight’ which grossed $536 million.

Thus, Barbie became the most successful release in the history of Warner Bros. at the American box office. The film’s resounding success is second only to the release of “Avengers: Endgame,” which grossed R$29.9 million and attracted an audience of 1.64 million.

The film

The storyline presents the magical universe of iconic Barbie and Ken dolls, where they live in perfect harmony. The narrative takes an unexpected turn when the stereotypical Barbie begins to fail and is forced to enter the human world in search of help.

Since the release of the first promotional material, admirers of the doll have eagerly awaited the film’s premiere, generating considerable excitement around the production.

Under the direction of Greta Gerwig (“Ladybird” and “Adoráveis Mulheres”), “Barbie” achieved impressive debut numbers both in Brazil and worldwide.
