After joining the Netflix catalog, O Escorpião Rei 5: O Livro das Almas has been very successful on the streaming platform, being among the 10 most watched films between June and July 2023. The franchise, which already has 5 films released and has a Reboot in development, it was based on the film The Mummy, with Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz. At the time, Dwayne Johnson, the famous The Rock, played the Scorpion King in The Mummy Returns, 2001, and in the first Scorpion King film, 2002.

The Scorpion King 2: The Legend of a Warrior (2008)

The second film in the series takes place before the first film, providing the origin of Mathayus. After the cruel sorcerer Sargon’s enchanted scorpions kill his father, our warrior swears revenge and embarks on a journey to become stronger. Upon returning home, he discovers that Sargon has usurped the throne and is now a king protected by a powerful spell. To defeat him, Mathayus needs the Sword of Damocles, but to obtain it he must travel to the underworld and face mythological creatures to finally reach the only object capable of destroying Sargon.

The Scorpion King 3: Battle for Redemption (2012)

The third film in the series takes place after the first film. After the collapse of his reign as the Scorpion King and the death of his wife Cassandra, Mathayus returns to being a mercenary. He is hired by Horus, the king of Egypt, to protect his ally King Ramusan from an imminent attack. As payment, the king offers Mathayus his daughter’s hand and the legendary Eye of the Gods, an artifact with supernatural powers that can help our Scorpion King regain his lost glory.

The Scorpion King 4: Quest for Power (2015)

The fourth film in the series, In Search of Power, begins with Mathayus being betrayed by his friend Drazen, after he finds a mystical artifact called the Urn of Kings, which has great power.

Only then can they restore peace to Ancient Egypt.

The Scorpion King restarts

It was revealed in November 2020 that a reboot of The Scorpion King was in development. Already in 2021 he was informed by producer Hiram Garcia that the first draft of the script, written by Jonathan Herman, was ready. The project, produced by Universal Picture and Seven Buck Productions, will see actor Dwayne Johnson as an executive producer, but he has said he will not repeat the role of Mathayus in this new production.

The new story will not be set in Ancient Egypt, but in the present day, with a contemporary retelling of the adventures of the Scorpion King. There is no forecast yet on when the reboot will hit theaters.
