Actor Bradley Cooper has revealed that he used drugs and alcohol to ease the pain he felt after rupturing his Achilles tendon. The theme emerged during the broadcast “Celebridades à Prova de Tudo” on the National Geographic channel.
During a wilderness adventure, host Bear Grylls wondered if Cooper “definitely had some wild years” during his career. The actor confirmed the information and said he found solace in using alcohol and cocaine.
“As far as alcohol and drugs, yes, but nothing to do with fame,” Cooper explained of his addiction in the troubled years of his career. “But I was lucky. I got sober at 29 and I’ve been sober for 19 years. Very lucky.”
The actor explained that although he had already started his career, his drug problems started before his sensational fame in the franchise “If you drink, don’t get married!” (2009). “I was 36 when it happened. [o reconhecimento], so it had been in the game for ten years. So, I didn’t get lost in the fame,” she explained, that he reached the point of self-harm and hit his head multiple times on the floor at a party.
Life lesson
Bradley Cooper recalled almost relapsing after losing his father to cancer in 2011. “I definitely had a nihilistic attitude about life after that. I was like, ‘I’m going to die.’ Thinking I have to embrace who I am I really am and I try to find peace with that, and then things work out,” she said.
The actor also said that the experience served as a learning experience for playing characters like Jackson Maine, from ‘A Star Is Born’ (2018), who also suffered from drug and alcohol addiction.
“It was easy to really step into that role. And thank God, I was at a point in my life where I was comfortable with all of that, so I could really let go.”
